Signing on!

This is the first post of the Brown Family and their upcoming adventure. The goal is to leave Toronto shortly and head down the Erie Canal and Intracoastal waterway to Florida and the Bahamas over the next 8 months or so.

What is "Snow Day" and what does it mean to us?

A snow day is a long anticipated day off school due to a winter storm. Typically the snow is piled high and everything glistens as kids toboggan, play hockey, and generally enjoy themselves in the great white north. Our "Snow Day" away will have very little snow but be no less enjoyable.

"Snow Day" is our sailboat. She is a 1970 Acadian Yawl built by Paceship Yachts in Mahone Bay Nova Scotia. She is 30' long and 8.5' wide drawing about 4.5' of water and increasing as we load more junk! Sure a 30' boat isn't all that big for 4 people, a cat, two dogs, and a fish plus all the food, gear, and spares, etc. Apparently "The size of your boat is inversely proportional to the size and number of dogs on board" or so.

Well, we will make more history, details, plans and pictures available on a semi-irregular basis. For now we will be trying to re-discover the quarter berth under a mountain of provisions and get ready to throw off the dock lines.
