Florida (First Coast)

This is the only shot we took of Georgia. It is a lot of scenic swamp meandering back and forth. We made good time, only 4 days, to get through this state. The only state that we didn't get hit by really cold weather. For some unexplainable reason we had tidal current always going with us up river, down river, and through cuts and canals morning and afternoon.
Fernandina Beach Florida:
First stop, the pulp and paper mills were very lovely. Actually they had a nice touristry downtown. The terrrain was still Georgia/Carolina lowland type swamp here. We stayed for a day and moved on.Fort George Island Plantation:
Anchored outside the plantation/park for the night. Took the tour and learned about sea cotton and slavery.
St Augustine:
Well we stopped here and enjoyed touring the fort that I (Rob) remembered from a family trailer trip 1/4 century ago. Tured the Spanish Quarter and had ice cream, mailed some postcards and took advantage of the dinghy dock pass that included showers!
Mantaz (slaughter) Inlet:
Were late for the fort tour after anchoring but enjoyed the Barrier Island nature preserve work. Nice to go ashore except for the cactus the dogs stepped in.
Daytona Beach:
We broke down and purchased a new 6hp Mercury outboard for the dinghy. We have been looking for a while for something used as the tidal current and distances have become more of a problem. We should get along a lot easier now!
Next: Titusville/ Orlando, Disney, Kennedy Space Center and a Shuttle Launch.
