Norfolk/Hampton Virginia
Well we made it through the dismal swamp, a nice place really, unscathed and are now in Hampton Virginia at th base of the Chesapeake. We hope to stop in Annapolis and Baltimore over the next week or two but first we will wait a couple of days for the North wind, and chop, to shift before heading up the bay.
We stopped in Norfolk and managed to be there for the last day of their tall ship festival. Since it was a Monday we had little crowd both in the anchorage and the tours of the ships. We saw a little known ship named the "Bluenose II" which was also built in Nova Scotia like "Snow Day". We toured lots of great modern ships and vintage replicas, and had the chance to see and sail(i.e. motor into a head wind) off with them Tuesday morning.
We are now in Hampton Virginia, a short way north of Norfolk, which has a nice small harbour and quaint downtown. We saw the small Cousteau Society Museum here and plan to see the Air and Space Museum that is also right here on the waterfront tomorrow. Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown are a days sail up the James River but most likely we will not be seeing them.
Best wishes, Snow Day Crew
P.S. will try to download the most recent pictures (Elizabeth city boat races, dismal swamp, Tall ships) directly off the camera to the library computer, don't hold your breath.
