Georgetown
Well, we made it to Georgetown. Can you believe it!! The kids are so happy, we have found other kids- lots of them to play with. After the Exuma Land and Sea Park we moved on and had to wait out a few northerly storms. One was pretty nasty and for a few days in a row it was calm in the day and then all hell would break loose at night! One night we woke to a huge squall, lots of heavy rain, the wind blowing at least 25 knots or more from the opposite direction to what we anchored for in the day. Thunder and lightening. We made it through and then went to Staniel Cay. Staniel had the Thunderball cave which was great. Really neat with lots of passages in and out and fish that swam around you. Very pretty. We were invited onto another boat to watch the Thunderball James Bond movie with the cave in it but we couldn't get it to work! Staniel itself was very expensive and didn't have a lot so we moved on. We met up with Kismet again and that has been fun. We did half of the trip to Georgetown and anchored in a nice area with free mooring balls for another blow. Then on to Georgetown- which again we just made it for the "blow of the season". One whole day of 20 knot winds, then a huge front blew through- huge dark clouds and gusts to 40 and 50 knots. The cruisers net- the VHF radio station that the cruisers talk to each other on- went bananas with people freaking out and yelling to boats that were dragging anchor!! Very entertaining. We were fine, our anchor did not move and we did well. We tucked right into the beach and had no one in front of us or behind us to worry about. Now the weather is calm again and we tucked up into a better place that cleared out after the storm. It is very pretty and this is our first trip into town. Its nice here, free water and garbage disposal, internet- although the connection is massively slow so I can't do pictures! We've met lots of cruisers and have had lots of dinners and kid gatherings so it has been great. The cruiser's regatta is coming up with kid activities so we'll be here for another week or 2.
