Georgetown and beyond

Hi everyone,
Georgetown was interesting and we stayed for about 2 weeks and then were ready to move on. It is a very large harbour with very few all round good and protected anchorages. The really protected areas are taken up by cruisers who come very early in the season and never leave. They are very clicky and grumpy. The other area that is good is a little farther away but worth it to be protected. So after the big blow we moved the boat for about 6 days and had all around protection in RedShanks area. Very nice but a long dingy ride across the bay for events. The town has free water, a grocery store, ice cream and internet. We enjoyed looking around the town. Unfortunately for mail you had to bring US stamps and then people coming and going would mail stuff from the US!!
The regatta was good, organized by the grumpy boats so some of the rules they had were very excluding to kids. However they had a great kid's day which they loved.
On kids day they had a treasure hunt, GPS race, boat building and sailing race, pudding eating contest, tug-of-war, etc, etc. The kids had an amazing time and they won ribbons too. Matthew won first place in the boat building contest downwind race. He screwed a wooden rudder onto a coconut and added a sail and it did very well!! He even got a little trophy and everything. Matthew was so happy. Abbey made it in the final heat with her little boat too and did very well. She used a wal-mart plastic bag and a styrofoam board and it did very well.
After kid's day tonnes of boats went 10 miles north to Emerald Bay Marina. It is brand new and has cheap promotional pricing for now- about 1/3 price so far!! It's amazing, a swimming pool that should be on Bahamas tourism pamphlets, free shuttle to the shops and grocery and a casino nearby we haven't checked out yet. Air conditioned lounge, free ice, laundry, internet. It's just great, especially since all the kids are here too!!
So right now we're in paradise and very soon I'll try to get pictures up too!
Snowday
